Maths at Summerlea

You can find out about how we teach maths at Summerlea by reading out Intent, Implementation and Impact statements. Our school works in partnership with Sussex Maths Hub, who work together with maths educationalists, researchers and practitioners to improve maths teaching and learning.

Get Ahead Maths Club

Every Thursday lunchtime, children can come to the ICT suite to get ahead with their MyMaths home learning, or spend time on Times Table Rock Stars or Numbots. A member of the Maths team will be on hand to support all children with their learning during this time. If children have found their home learning challenging, or have been unable to complete it at home, this is an ideal time to spend on it.

Multiplication Tables Check

This year, all children in Year 4 will complete the Multiplication Tables Check in June. The purpose of the check is to determine whether your child can fluently recall their times tables up to 12, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will also help your child’s school to identify if your child may need additional support.

Download the attachment below for information for parents on the multiplication tables check.

You can support your child at home by regularly learning their multiplication tables with them, as well as allowing them time to use Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS), to which we subscribe as a school. On TTRS there is a useful practice area called 'Soundcheck', that is a simulation of the Multiplication Check in June. On TTRS, children can also keep a track of their 'heat map' and track their progress!

Please speak to your child's class teacher if you have any questions about TTRS, or the multiplication tables check.
