Sports Premium & Swimming

Sports Premium

In April 2013, the Government announced new funding (Sports Premium) for physical education (PE) and sport in all maintained primary schools with pupils in Years 1 to 6. This funding must be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of. It is up to individual schools to determine how best to use this additional funding and they will be assessed on how effectively it is being used by Ofsted. Please see our Sports Premium plans below.

Swimming

Swimming lessons take place at the Littlehampton Wave Leisure Centre. Year 2 and 3 swim in the autumn term, Year 6 and Year 4 in the spring term and Year 5 in the summer term. Top up swimming sessions are then provided for Year 6 children not meeting the expected standard (see below) in the latter part of the summer term.

Academic year 2021-22

The percentage of current Year 6 pupils who can swim competently, confidently, and proficient over a distance of at least 25 metres is: 70%

The percentage of current Year 6 pupils who can use a range of strokes effectively is: 62% (front crawl), 65% (breast stroke) and 75% (back stroke).

The percentage of current Year 6 pupils who can perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations: 46%

NB: Top-up swimming was unable to take place during the summer term 2020 and the academic year 2020-2021 due to the outbreak of Covid-19.
