Inclusion and SEND

Our Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator (SENDCo) is Miss Zoe Chandler. Please visit Contact Us if you wish to get in touch with her.

Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) at Summerlea is seen as the responsibility of the whole school, which places disability and difficulty within the wide spectrum of human experience and ensures that this is an integral part of teaching and learning.

We provide an inclusive curriculum, to ensure the best possible progress for all of our pupils, whatever their needs or abilities, and to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children in our care.

Disabled Access

Summerlea School was constructed in phases beginning in 1998 and built to the relevant disabled requirements. The building is on one level and there are no steps to encounter for entry or exit to any part of the main building. There is a purpose built toilet for wheelchair users. There is a mobile classroom on site which has a ramp for wheelchair accessibility. Building modifications for additional accessibility have recently been completed as part of a new build project that was jointly funded by the Local Education Authority and Summerlea School.
