A New Reading & Writing Challenge!

A new reading and writing challenge!

You might notice that this fortnight’s newsletter doesn’t feature the latest winning entries from our 100-word challenge. That’s because Mrs Tedbury is launching a completely new challenge this term to get the children’s creative juices flowing and inspire them to read and write.

Over a set period of time, the whole school will explore a given theme, the first of which will be ‘crime and mystery’. To get started, children will explore a range of age appropriate texts linked to this topic; there will be displays around the school, including in our library.

Children will then be set the challenge of creating their own piece of work linked to the theme, using the texts they have looked at as inspiration.

There will be an opportunity to hear excerpts from texts in assemblies and the children’s writing will also be shared and celebrated.

Some of Mrs Tedbury’s favourite pieces will be uploaded to our website for everyone to read and enjoy. We will keep you informed of the current theme and if you have any linked resources (texts, artefacts or something else) we could use then please do speak to Mrs Tedbury or your child’s class teacher.

We are really excited about this new challenge, which will promote reading for meaning and writing for purpose across the curriculum.
