Pupils’ average progress in each of reading, writing and mathematics

Progress is measured for each individual pupil from their Key Stage 1 SATs results. It is measured against this as either a positive or negative score with 0 being the progress made nationally by children with a similar Key Stage 1 starting point.

It is helpful to benchmark these figures against the government ‘floor standard’ which is the minimum standard for pupil progress that the government expects schools to meet. To reach the ‘floor standard’ 65% of pupils in each school had to reach the expected level in reading, writing and mathematics or schools needed to be achieving sufficient progress scores in all three subjects (at least -5 in reading, -7 in writing and -5 in mathematics.
