Sports Premium & Swimming
In April 2013, the Government announced new funding (Sports Premium) for physical education (PE) and sport in all maintained primary schools with pupils in Years 1 to 6. This funding must be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of. It is up to individual schools to determine how best to use this additional funding and they will be assessed on how effectively it is being used by Ofsted.
Swimming Information 2018-19
Swimming instruction is provided in Key Stage 1 (Year 2) and Lower Key Stage 2 (Year 3 and Year 4).
93.5% of our Year 6 cohort could swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 minutes.
93.5% of our Year 6 cohort could use a range of strokes effectively (for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke).
93.5% of our Year 6 cohort could perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
We have chosen to use the Primary PE and Sport Premium to provide additional provision for swimming activity over and above the national curriculum requirements. Our aim is for all pupils to achieve the above standards and we therefore offer targeted ‘top-up’ lessons in Upper Key Stage 2 to all pupils not meeting these. These extra sessions take place in the summer term.
