Sue Meekings – Chair of SCC 

I am a proud parent to adult children and a grandparent to eight wonderful grandchildren. Outside of my governance role, I am an avid reader and an obsessive cold water swimmer—a hobby that certainly keeps me energised! Spending time with my grandchildren keeps me closely connected to the experiences, joys, and challenges facing young people today.

I bring a wealth of senior educational experience to the governing board, having previously served as the Headteacher of a special school. Throughout my career, I specialised in strategic school leadership,  and creating inclusive learning environments. This background gives me a deep understanding of school operations, data, and statutory duties. 

I have a lifelong passion for ensuring that the unique needs of every single child are met, regardless of their starting point or barriers to learning. In my role as Chair, I am dedicated to using my professional expertise to champion a culture of safety through my safeguarding portfolio, and provides an environment where all pupils can reach their full potential.

Sara Hughes - Vice Chair

I’ve been a Parent member  of Summerlea school SCC since 2019, and it’s a role I’m really proud to hold. My daughter loved her time at Summerlea and is now in secondary school, and my son is happily working his way through his own journey here. I bring a strong background in education welfare, especially around safeguarding and SEND and inclusion.  I’m passionate about making sure every child has the chance to thrive and reach their potential. Being a member is a wonderful way for me to give back to a community that means so much to my family.
